Opera Make Your Browser Fly

Thanks everyone for trying out Opera Mobile beta for Android so far!

We published another update last night with fixes for the following problems:
- Japanese/Arabic/Hebrew/Thai fonts support
- "default browser" problem when both Opera Mobile and Opera Mini is installed on the device

Your bug reports are very valuable for us, as we can’t reproduce some of the reported problems ourselves. However, sometimes it’s hard for us to find the reason from your posts on the forums. It’s also possible to report bugs directly to our bug tracking system at https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/. Please don’t forget to set Android in both the operating system and platform dropdowns there.

In case of crashes, it would be of a great help if you also attached a log that would tell us what was going on when the crash happened, although it isn’t so straightforward to get the log:

First of all, you need to download Android tools from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html. There are versions for Windows, Linux and Mac. After you unpack it, start a command line (that’s "cmd" in the Windows "Run…" menu) and go to the tools directory. Once there, type "adb logcat" and attach the output to the bug report. Note that for this to work, you need to enable Applications -> Development -> USB debugging on your phone.

Once you update Opera from the Android Market, I wish you a nice experience with it!

  • We are excited to release Opera Mobile 10.1 beta for Android. Our outstanding Android developers in Czech Republic, Sweden, Norway, Poland, and China have been working overtime to bring you this release. Opera signature features like Speed Dials, Visual Tabs, Password Manager, Link, Turbo and many others are now available to Android users. Not to forget the legendary speed of the Opera Presto rendering engine.

Search for "Opera Mobile" in the Android Market, or download direct to your PC.

Read more on our web site. And if you are a developer, there is even more at dev.opera.com.

Share your feedback in our forums.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!

And know that there is more in the pipeline. This is a first release and we prioritized having a stable base to start with. Over the next months we will add support for HTML5 Video and Flash, as well as upgrading to the latest Opera Presto core and thereby enabling standards like Application Cache and Web Storage. And we focus on platform optimizations like Hardware Acceleration and JIT compilation which will further improve both performance and usability.

    Known issues:

    • Incorrect fonts used for some Asian characters (Japanese not working)
    • Some compatibility issues with some Google services (working with Google on that)
    • Web fonts disabled

    Opera Mobile vs Mobile Mini
As many of you know we also have Opera Mini available for Android OS. For more information about the difference between the two products, see this blog post and the specs on the product pages. Some of you will prefer one over the other. Others, like me, will want to have both. Both are free and available today for your Android OS phone so we encourage you to try them both for yourself.
