  • Today we released silent update 1 for Opera Mobile 11.1 for Android. Download silent update 1 direct to your Android device from m.opera.com, or get the update in the Android Market.

    What is a silent update?
A newer version of Opera Mobile 11.1 which replaces the launch version of Opera Mobile 11.1

Why did we release a silent update?
Opera Mobile 11.1 was freezing at startup on certain Android devices

Shortly after the launch of Opera Mobile 11.1 for Android we started receiving reports Opera was freezing at startup. We traced the startup freeze to devices with non-standards fonts. Most effected devices were the HTC HD2, and LG P990 Optimus 2x. The developers also identified and fixed another freeze on start-up bug that was effecting devices with Hardware keyboards such as the Motorola Milestone, and the HTC Desire Z.

Change log for Opera Mobile 11.1 silent update 1

    • Fixed force close issues related to non-standard fonts in the system
    • Fixed force close issues when using hardware keyboards
    • Fixed problems with text vanishing from text fields after editing

As always send us your feedback in the Android market, or head over to the Opera Mobile for Android forum to discuss.

    Happy browsing,
    The Opera Mobile team

  • Last night at around 10pm CET: Opera received reports that Opera Mini had stopped working on iOS devices. We scrambled the troops to figure out what could be wrong.

Early this morning CET: We discovered the Opera Mini severs where causing communication issues between the iOS Opera Mini client and our servers around the globe. What was the issue? Turned out to be something as simple as fonts. Our servers could no longer detect the fonts on iOS devices with iOS 4.3 installed. This turned out to be great news for the team, as it was a quick fix.

Around noon CET: The Opera Mini server team started rolling out the iOS fix globally across the Opera Mini servers. As of 1pm CET Opera Mini should be working again on all iOS devices.

Sorry for any inconvenience this caused. Please let us know in the comments if you are still unable to connect with Opera Mini on iOS devices.

A big thanks to the Opera Mini team for the quick turnaround (even though today is the Opera Software HQ Summer party :jester:)

    Regards,
    The Opera Mini Team

  • Fewer mobile pages for iPad users

Opera Mini 6 for iOS was released yesterday May 24th, 2011  There has been an overwhelming amount of feedback, tweets, and reviews! Thank you for all those who downloaded Opera Mini on your iOS device, and thank you for all the support and feedback! Keep the feedback coming, we are listening.

Among the positive news of yesterday’s launch we received a lot of feedback from our iPad users that they were getting the mobile version of their favorite websites. We have been looking into it and unfortunately we are getting the same mobile websites on our iPads. We don’t like it either.

So after looking closely into the situation, we updated the Opera Mini servers today at 1700 UTC for our iPad Opera Mini users. Opera Mini users on iPads will now see fewer mobile websites!!

Although Opera Mini is a capable mobile browser used by a lot of people, there are still websites that prefer to serve mobile web pages to Opera Mini. What do we do then? This is the role of the Open The Web (OTW) team here at Opera Software. They work directly with websites to serve the right content to Opera users.

After today’s update if you are an iPad user and you are getting a mobile version of a website incorrectly we want to hear from you, report your feedback in our forum, and please report any bugs in our bug report wizard. Thanks!

    Regards,
    The Opera Mini Team
